Luckily I have not been caught out in any major blunders yet, though it will happen sooner or later I am sure.
Thong - not something worn on the feet in the USA (they are flipflops) but rather a piece of underwear aka G-String
Biscuits - Scones - Come in a can in the fridge at store, smack tin on kitchen counter til it pops open then bake for 15 mins. MMMMMM yummo !
Cookies - Biscuits
Shopping Trolley - Shopping Cart
Milk - does not go in coffee .. Creamer does - Comes in flavoured bottles in the fridge at the grocery store.
Note : Creamer is addictive, especially the Cinnamon one !
Aluminium Foil - Aluminum. Somehow they dropped a syllable here.
Food Servings - are HUGE. I am trying to remember to order a kids meal when I am out in a Fast Food place. Or a snack serve.
Transporting a cat from Australia - Is an interesting experience. And expensive. It costs more to send a cat one way than a human both ways. And then said cat arrives at "nearest" airport, a 3 hour drive away, but once we get there she can't be brought home, as the US Dept of Agriculture didn't rubber stamp her entry to Los Angeles. So a 3 hour drive home, no cat, to turn about and do it all again the next day. And pay $50 for her to be boarded overnight. Now cat is in a total mood with her humans, Shredded one of us, shat in the bathtub, and is currently on solitary confinement upstairs til she gets more calm. Though she did suspend hostilities to eat some Turkey from the Man earlier today.
What happens when an Aussie woman comes to visit a small town in Western Kentucky for a few months.... and are the locals ready for that ?!?

My First Thanksgiving
Well....
Hi All !
I've been in the USA about a week and a half now. I had desperately hoped to be here for Thanksgiving, and made it in time to settle into a house with the Man, and to get at least enough household items to have a proper Thanksgiving Dinner.
OMG - it was delicious but so much more food than we can eat. I think I need creative turkey leftover recipes...
Though I think a Turkey Lasagna is on the cards soon.
We had one guest and it was a great day.
I really liked learning to make pecan pie too. Trial and error. The first one was a little burned, but the second one looks great just that I am still too full from the main meal to try dessert yet.
